New Year, New Opportunities, New Experiences

I can’t believe it is already 2017! Counsel as a family this week on what you can do together to improve your relationships, come closer to Christ, and further serve those around you. Write these ideas down and reflect as a family often and I promise you will receive heavenly help in achieving these goals!

New Year’s was crazy here! I have never seen so much food at one event in my life! At uncle Billy’s house there was the Eternal food line, never ending! All the local food you could think of! A multicultural food assortment! Of course the line starts with rice and Poi. I can honestly say I enjoy eating all of this stuff now! Everything has grown on me and I really enjoy it all! I remember my first time having poke and poi and wanting to throw up and now going back for seconds, haha. I have found my new all-time favorite desert and love of my life.... Halpia is my favorite. It’s so good!<3

Bummer part of the New Year was we got transfer news and Elder Pugh and Elder Wills, my best friends on the mission, both from Idaho. All three of us entered the MTC together and then all came to the same zone when we got here. Anyways they both got transferred. So I am now the oldest person in the Zone. When I came in to this zone everyone that was here is now other places. It’s kind of weird! We were also able to watch a movie as missionaries for New Year’s! Shortly after, we found out Elder Pugh’s confidence in the gallon challenge did not help his performance! And also Elder Vanshaar doesn't do well with a 2 liter of root beer. So I played it smart and just stuck with my Water!
Anyways, on Sunday I was able to give a talk. I was asked to speak on "Spiritual Growth Through Sacrifice." I was the 3rd speaker and you know it was a great way to start a talk when the second speaker sat down and the intermediate hymn started and I look at my watch and look at the bishopric and they all start laughing because I have 35-40 minutes to kill... Just how that meeting worked out I guess.. But man I was nervous seeing that and then looking at my 4 bullet points I had written down haha. I am just grateful for the spirit in helping me out with that one! Friends and family this week I just want to share a few things that pressed upon my mind as I prepared and delivered this message on this topic. We of course do not perform animal sacrifices in our day and age. However, the sacrifice we most commonly offer up is our obedience to the laws and commandments of the gospel. Often times the big things are easy. But how much do we forget the little things such as; reading scriptures, saying prayers, family home evenings, serving others, and being positive. I testify our continuous effort in the little things everyday outweighs a rare big one time decision. A continual study of the scriptures daily over weeks and months will be more spiritually uplifting than a 1 day all day binge read. A prayer of the heart offered up after a continual communication with Heavenly Father over months and years will have a bigger meaning and impact than a onetime cry for help in a moment of crisis. Our continual sacrifice we make each day to obey and come unto Christ will enable the infinite and continuous power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ to swallow up and engulf our hearts, bodies, and minds. We will become living examples of the Atonement taking effect in this mortal world. We will be a light and example for all those around, we can be a source for help for those desiring to find salvation. We will be an instrument in the Lords hands.

Back to my challenge at the beginning, please meet as a family and discuss what you can do, what you can sacrifice, what you can leave behind to follow our savior Jesus Christ Closer. I promise as you do you will receive a greater power to uplift you and your family. You will invite the spirit to walk with you each and every step of the way. You will receive heavenly help to get through any trials you have or come upon. Friends and Family, Jesus Christ lives. He has provided a way for us to be cleansed from all unrighteousness and to feel of the spirit always. Take hold of his hand and let him be your guide through this coming year. Make 2017 a year of service, obedience, and spiritual growth. I love each and every one of you. Have a fabulous week!

The Corotan's spoiled him with a huge breakfast.

This is a sweet bread french toast with a half slice of ham steak topped with a over medium hard egg then topped with another sweet bread french toast with a blob of butter on top and dripping with some lilikoi (passion fruit) butter. 3000 calories!!!

Sister Corotan is teaching the Elder's to make leis. They turned our beautiful.
